Vegas, Valley of Fire, First Day Flying Home

Thursday Feb 14, while drinking the night before we pretty much decided on driving to Mexico in the morning and down to a tourist town James knew about. This morning we still didn’t see any flaw with this idea so I started to unload stuff from the truck. We were not exactly sure what you can and can’t bring into Mexico so we looked a few things up. Basically the number one rule on going to Mexico is, never bring your own car. Attached to that rule is don’t bring anything you need to bring back. James had a project to do and needed his laptop. Not to mention all the other things in my car. We still didn’t believe the hype too much so James called a friend of his who lived in Mexico for most of his life. The first thing he told us to do is get a rental car. So our beach side Mexican vacation was shot down. I had some hiking spots picked out in southern Nevada. That lead to James saying he had a friend in Vegas that we could probably stay with. So Vegas it is. We had a bunch of running around before we left so we were on the road around 4. Along the way James mentioned he thought he had some kind of time share that we might be able to use. He called them up and sure enough everything would work out perfectly. Right when we got into Vegas we decided to take a drive down the strip. And of course, 2 blocks down the street some little chick in Daddy’s Audi can’t figure out how lights work and hits the side of my car. It wasn’t hard and I really didn’t care about a few paint smudges but I figured I would pull over and see what’s what. I was in front of her trying to get in the right lane to get off the main strip. That’s when she decided to go up a block and try to take a left at the light. We were both stopped at the red turning light and I leaned my head out the window to see is anything happened to my car. She messed up the paint a bit but I still wasn’t too concerned. I figured we would pull over, apologize, shake hands and go our own ways. As I was looking back at the side of the car she puts her head out and yells, you know this is all your fault, can’t you see the lines!! Now I’m pissed. Not only can the bitch not drive, but she arrogant about it. So now I start to follow her, James points out that I have to report this. If I don’t and she does its considered hit and run, and leaving the scene of a crime. So that’s what we did. I pulled off in a parking lot and we waited for the police to show up. I should mention I don’t care if a cop, even if there to help me, I HATE talking to them at all. So after tripping over my words for awhile he understood. James and I had to fill out a police report and all that good stuff, but thankfully it didn’t burn up to much time. We drove over to the Bluegreen Resort and checked into our room. I really couldn’t not believe the room we got. Full kitchen, laundry, living room with pull out couch, and king size bedroom. This was way better then my plan of getting drunk and sleeping in the car somewhere. So we sat around for a bit sipping on some cocktails and enjoying the place. It was getting late so he hit the streets. Neither of us wanted to spend more money so we just wondered around the streets for quite some time before heading back to the room.

We got a slow start Friday and spent most of the day hanging out around the resort. Of course I had to hit up the hot tub, we also cooked up some food. Through this time share thing he actually has a ton of points he has to use up before November. So we are thinking about a trip to Aruba. We spent some serious time looking things up and it seems like it could happen. The hardest part is going to be asking the boss for another week off lol. Again we spent the afternoon sippin and walking around town. You are pretty much guaranteed to have a good time. There are so many people walking around and just about everyone is happy to be there.

We checked out in the morning and started the drive to valley of fire state park. It’s about an hour east of Vegas. I didn’t know anything about this place; it was actually recommended to me by a man I met in the bottom of the Grand Canyon the first year I was down there. He just so happens to live in Milwaukee and is friends with one of my uncles. The park is in an area called the Muddy Mountains. They are shorter mountains with very bland colors, green, brown, and grey. As your driving through it’s hard to imagine something spectacular in this landscape. But sure enough plants earth strikes again. All of a sudden there’s huge fire red, wind worn formations everywhere, they are pretty hard to describe. James has a nicer camera then me so I was glad he loves taking pictures. I figured I would just steal them from him later. As you drive through the rocks are different colors. You have a section called white domes, there the red and white blend in different spots forming anything from purple to yellow. It’s a really really cool place. We did a drive through of the park and got some great pictures. On the way in I found out my little brother Elliot made it to state for wrestling. The big tournament starts on the 21st. but I didn’t think there was any way I could make it. We wanted to see Lake Meed before dark so we quickly drove over to get a look at it. The lake wasn’t too impressive, and we killed the rest of the day light. There was a sweet truck stop next to the highway where we grabbed some food and killed some time. It was pretty funny to see that the truck stop sold tons of fireworks. They also had a huge lot, so people would buy fireworks and just walk outside and light it up. We sat in the car and watched a movie, its embarrassing to say but we watched Wreck it Ralph. After that we crashed out in the parking lot, with fireworks going off most of the night.

Sunday we were up really early. We wanted to set up a good place to get some sun rise pictures. So we drove back into the park and hiked up to a cool over look. In the morning Its only about 40 degrees by noon it was over 70. After we watched the sun come up for awhile we drove over to another area of the park. It is called 7 sisters. There are 7 rock formations that just stand alone. They turned this into a picnic area with grills and tables. We cooked up some breakfast here and made a game plan for the day. Next we drove up to the visitor center and asked about some hiking. The best one seemed to be a 5.5 one way trail, so 11 total. You park at a spot in the muddy mountains and hike up and into a valley behind all the formations. You pretty much follow a wash out parallel to the road but behind all the formations you see from the road. If that makes sense? It was a pretty easy hike but the rocks were fun to climb so we stopped to do that once in awhile. After the hike we drove back Vegas. With James’s time share deal he can walk in and use the facilities at any of their resorts. After a soak in the tub and a hot shower we cooked up some couscous in the parking lot. Lots of weird looks and one guy said he’s been working here for 22 years and has never seen tailgating here. James has been to Vegas 50+ times and has never gone to Fremont st. While we were here I’ve heard of it twice but never really knew what it was. So we drove over, it has the biggest TV screen in the world. It’s the width of 4 lanes and stretches a little over 2 blocks. The street is actually closed off and there are tons of venders with everything to sell. There were a few cool things to see. The spray paint artist is amazing. In a matter of 5-10 minutes he makes these beautiful paints with scenes of the Vegas strip. Then there was a guy who would carve your face into clay. You would end up with a mini head of yourself. But by far the craziest thing I saw in along long time was as follows. There was a DJ at one end dancing and playing music. There was a crowd of people in front of the stage. And they were a group of the weirdest people I’ve ever seen. I’m still very confused by what I saw. I saw them all drinking so I figured they were drunk, but then I think they were all on drugs, but then I think some were actually retarded, but then I think there was a homeless convention. James and I stood there for quite some time trying to solve this conundrum. Still don’t really know what was going on, that could just be what you get in Vegas. The other strange part to this was that it was 7:30 pm. The only thing that could make sense to me was that they were still up from the night before? After that sight were walked around the street a few more times, listening to the music and watching the street performers. Then we had a decision to make. Either we start drinking and stay the night or call it a trip and start the drive home. We were both warn out from the weekend of drinking, hiking, and no sleep. So, back to Ventura. We finally made it around 2 am and crashed.

Monday, when I finally woke up, we rearranged everything in the car. This really took some time. The bottle of booze in the cooler leaked a bit and everything was sticky and smelt pretty bad. Next we watched some TV shows for awhile. I looked into driving to Elliot’s tournament and back, which came out to over $1000 in gas alone. So I’ve been looking into flights and I finally found a decently priced one and booked it. This whole time I’ve been telling my parents that there’s no way I was going to make it up there, so it should make for a pretty good surprise. When I get back I will be driving to Phoenix to see my friend Mike. And the cheapest tickets I could find were from Vegas to Chicago. Which should work out just fine. Tiffany came home after work and they both had a lot of homework to finish up so I just looked things up for awhile. When Tiffany finished her and I headed to cold stone to pick up some ice cream. I’ve never been there and I was pretty much over whelmed by the choices. How is someone supposed to choose from like 100 different things to add? I ended up with a peanut butter cup type thing, and it was delicious.

James had to get up around 430 in the morning. And tiffany got off of work at 7 in the morning. Her and I went to grab some breakfast at a place around the corner called Allison’s place. We showed up and there were 3 squad cars in the parking lot. That’s how you know the food is good. It’s your typical greasy spoon with great food. They give you these 2 huge fluffy biscuits that could be a meal all in its own. After breakfast I said good bye to Tiff and started the drive back to Vegas. That night I just got ready for my flight in the morning and watched some movies.

Wednesday morning I ate a quick breakfast and drove over to the parking lot and packed up. I took the shuttle to ticketing area. Walked up to the counter, and found out I’m fucked. For some reason my flight was booked for March 6th-16th. I checked my email confirmation and sure enough I seriously messed something up. I still don’t understand how. I typed in the 21-28 and scrolled down a bit and clicked one. After paying a painful rebooking fee I got a flight leaving at 8 pm to LA then to Chicago at 1159pm. So if anyone is paying attention I came from the Grand Canyon, to LA, to Vegas, to LA, to Vegas, just to fly BACK TO LA!!!! But on the bright side everything was still going to work out fine. NOPE!!! As im getting back in my car the zipper on my pants break. How does that happen? Something comes by and stabs you, and then something else has to come by and twist the knife. I didn’t feel safe doing anything so I watched movies for the day. I made the flight to LA and things started to go smoothly. I had a 3 hour layover so I was able to get some typing done. The seats on the flight to Chicago didn’t recline at all, so sleep really wasn’t going to happen.

Thursday Adam was able to pick me up on his way to work around 7 am. It was great to see him but I was not happy about the weather. Simply it sucked, cold, cloudy, and windy. Adam headed right to work and I took his car in to the dealer for a tune up. The dealership had free internet so it gave me time to take care of a few things and do some typing. Adam only worked half a day so I drove back over by him at noon. Then we started the drive to Madison. We spent the time catching up and planning out the weekend. When we arrived Adam was going to meet mom at the door to the stadium. He walked up and told her that he found a bum at the air port. My mom was pretty shocked to see me and we all headed inside. My dad was surprised but he later said he had a feeling I was going to show up. Elliot saw me sitting by everyone and came over to say hi. It was great to see everyone and I was glad I made the trip. We watched Elliot’s first match and he did really well. He won!!

(pics of Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon), Ventura CA, Pismo Beach, Big Sur, Morro Bay

The Friday after Madlen left I was expecting to lie on the beach all day. But I should have sent the weather a memo; It was raining on and off all day. Which was probably a good thing; I had a ton of catching up to do on the blog. So I pretty much spent the entire day sitting in my car at the marina typing away. Then I drove to a McDonalds to post everything and typed some more until they closed. After I posted the blog entry Robert Yanasak sent me a message that I yet again had more relatives in the area. I was planning on seeing a few people while I was down here but everyone was way too busy. And I have the habit of giving zero notice to anyone. With the new break in my schedule I was able to contact James Robbins, and we made plans to meet up the next morning. He lives in Ventura which was a few hours away from me so I started driving but it was already really late so I soon found a nice parking lot to curl up at and fall asleep.
In the morning I met up with James and we hung out for a bit. James is 31 and just had a birthday this month. He was in the marines after high school and sense then has done several different jobs. Including contract work over in Iraq. He was married for awhile and had a house in Michigan and one down here in Ventura. Then went through a divorce and refocused his life. Now he’s going back to school for nursing and has 2 years left. Right now he’s living in a trailer, with his eye on a huge 5th wheel once he finishes school. He and I had a lot in common and it was easy to get along with him. We walked around town for a bit. There happened to be a lot of stuff going on. First we ran into a renaissance fair thing going on. This was pretty weird to see, mainly the people beating the shit out of each other with foam weapons. Next we walked around the farmers market, then out on the pier. There were a few people fishing out there but the cool thing to see was a couple of kids catching crabs in there crab trap. After that we walked along the beach for awhile where they were having a surf competition. And giving out free muscle milk, it’s so tasty. Once we got back we did some laundry and I took a shower. Next we drove up to an over look of the city, I think it’s called cross point. From here you can see the whole town and surrounding area. It’s such a beautiful place; I might have to add it to my yearly trips. His sister Tiffany got off of work around 5. She moved out here 6 months ago to go to school for nursing. For now she is also working as a care taker. She had to leave right away and work on her taxes. James has a ton of movies and I grabbed a few for the road. He had a date so headed off to the movies. Tiff came back and we both picked up her friend and ran to the liquor store. We sat around joking for awhile and James came home. He cooked up some steaks and potatoes for dinner then we headed to the bars for some drinks.
Sunday Feb 10 James had a study group to go to so we looked up a few things online and made plans to do some hiking later in the week. I headed out and drove north to Pismo Beach. It’s a really cool little beach town. I hung around here for a while then drove further north until dark and made it to the south end of Big Sur.
Monday I drove around to the different beaches along the beautiful Big Sur coast and hiked about. I watched some surfers for awhile and checked out the elephant seals again. Then I drove down to Marro bay and hung out for the rest of the day. This is a smaller harbor town with lots of fishing. I took a nap at the ocean and just relaxed for the night.
In the morning I looked into fishing but it didn’t seem like a good time of year for shore fishing. So I walked around town for part of the day then drove back down to Pismo area. Here I found a nice hotel with a pool open. I hopped in the tub for awhile and lied around it was about 65 and sunny, so I figured I would take advantage of it. For dinner I cooked up some couscous and finished typing on my blog.
Wednesday I posted the blog and looked up some things for the rest of my trip. Surprisingly my time is running out lol. Its’ hard to believe but I have a lot I have planned in the few weeks left. I also contacted James to see if he still had some time off for hiking. He said of course, so I drove back down by him. When I got there he was finishing up a movie, when it ended I figured we would find a spot and probably start the drive. Instead the whiskey started flowing, but we still looked things up and would head out in the morning.

Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Zion, (Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon)

Friday Feb 14 I realized the ground pad I had completely sucked. It wasn’t much cushion and mainly, it didn’t stop any of the cold creeping in. After thinking about it I decided I’m going to go buy a nice one. I have a feeling I’ll get a bit of use out of it. There were a few people in the parking lot when I came sliding out of the back of the truck. I would really love to know what they thought at that time. Then we re-packed the truck and drove to Yosemite village. We went right to the visitor center and talked to the lady there. She seemed bitchy, and didn’t really listen to anything we were saying. The first hike we did was to lower Yosemite falls. This is the most well known trial in the park. We decided to make it a little more interesting and hike off the trail, right up to the base of the falls. Next we drove over to bridal falls, which is a very short hike that takes you to the base of these falls. From here you can look across the valley to horsetail falls. For the bigger hike that the lady suggested we drove past the village and found parking. You’re supposed to take a bus to the trail head but we decided to walk through the campground instead. And it really paid off, literally, we found $40. The hike was nice but defiantly not what we were looking for. The first part is just walking on an unplowed road to Mirror Lake. From there it’s a very easy trail along a river and back down the same river. It was nice hike through the woods and you get a pretty good view of half dome. But we were really looking for something with a bit a skill involved. When we made it back to the car, Madlen spotted a campground shower on the way in and we decided to check it out. The door handles had a punch code to open them but it just so happened that 2 of the woman’s doors were jammed because of the cold. I’ve never been one to be picky about a hot shower. After that we needed some directions to get to Kings Canyon. In winter lots of roads are closed off so you really never know how to get to some places. We went to Yosemite Lodge and loaded up on free hot coco and some info. We drove straight south to Fresno CA. Then we stopped at REI so I could pick up a ground pad, and vons for some food. From Fresno we drove east for awhile and found a park to sleep at. We had to drive through several orange plantations to get there, and Im sure they didn’t miss the few oranges that found their way into our car. Then we turned the bed of the truck into a…. bed and called it a night.
Saturday morning we picked a few other fruits growing in the fields and drove into Kings Canyon. At the visitor center they told us to hike to General Grant tree. This is the tallest sequoia tree. Walking through this forest is a really cool experience. The giant sequoias are dispersed through the woods with lots of other trees intermingled. The sequoias have a reddish tint to their bark; there is a lot of vivid green moss growing on some of the other trees around, all this with the white snow makes for a very pretty sight. Next we drove through the park and down to Sequoia National Park. Here we saw General Sherman tree. It’s not the tallest, it’s not the widest, it’s not the oldest, but it is the most massive living thing on earth. Which is pretty cool. Next was the visitor center and here they sent us on a hike to Mono rock. This was another hike on an unplowed road. I felt I needed to start to try to prepare for the Grand Canyon so I put my pack on and threw in the chains for my tires. We hiked until the trail kinda faded away and then walked over the edge of a cliff. Here we took a break for lunch and thought we finished the hike. As we were eating I saw the spot we were supposed to go to. I saw a guard rail on the side of a huge protruding rock about 300 yards away. We both felt a little dumb not seeing the giant “mono” rock. So we hike up, and here was an awesome view. On one side you look up to snow toped mountains. The other side looks down at a valley with a river running through the bottom. You could also see the road we had to take out of the park. The park puts a 22 foot long vehicle restriction on this road. It was full of extremely tight curves. We went back to the car and started down the winding road. We had the idea to have a fire in the desert, we just needed wood. So we pulled over and grabbed whatever we could. We also found these huge nuts that looked like chestnuts. We grabbed a bunch and figured we could try to roast them. There was a really cool sun set over the mountains that we watched on the drive out of the park. We continued south to Bakersfield, here we stopped at a good will to pick up a pot for cooking in the Grand Canyon. I realized I forgot some of my cooking supplies at home. Then drove all the way to Las Vegas, and found a Wal-Mart.
Sunday the 3rd we were up early and drove up and down the strip a few times to see the place. We should have checked it out the night before but it was still cool. Next stop, Zion National Park which is about 2 hours away. We went to the visitor center and the lady was pretty helpful. She suggested a hike and we headed over right away. I packed up the tire chains and we headed up. It was a nice hike but it dead ended at impassable ice so we had to head back. On the way back we ran into a father and his 2 sons coming out of a spot off the trail. We talked to them and he suggested we hike up where they came from. So we did, and it led to a really cool over look of the valley. From here we hiked out and had some time before sun down to drive around the park and take some pictures. Zion will always be an incredible place and I still consider it the most beautiful place I’ve been to. You can see every color right in front you all blended perfectly together. Once we left we had the idea to try to grill out somewhere. We still had the wood and I have an open fire grate. We picked what looked like a cool spot next to a lake on the map. And picked up some steak and a fish. The next place on the list was Bryce Canyon. And I should have realized a canyon you start up high and go down. The top of Zion is still lower than the bottom of Bryce. So we drove up and quickly found out the bbq was canceled. There was snow, several feet of it. O well, we made it to Bryce and slept in the cab of the truck to stay warm.
The first stop in the morning was across the street from where we slept, Best Western. They had a great breakfast buffet all set up for us. Then we drove into Bryce Canyon. They ranger at the visitor center actually listened to us and sent us on a great day hike called the figure 8. I wanted to test out my equipment and decided to try to cook a hot lunch while hiking. The hike starts at sunrise point. This is your first look in the canyon; this place is nothing like anything I have ever seen. I consider this the best place to take pictures. Everywhere you look are these incredible worn down rock formations. They are hard to even explain. So we hiked along the rim for a ways then go down into the canyon and look up at these structures. It was a really cool hike and I’m really glad we came here. I was debating cutting it from the list to have more time in the Grand Canyon. The trail dose what it says and make a figure 8 with you starting on the bottom of the 8. Once we made it back to the center the second time we stopped for lunch. We had couscous with roasted peppers and I had chicken in mine. Everything worked out perfectly and a hot meal while you’re hiking is always appreciated. We finished the hike and made it back to the car with lots of day light left. So we started getting organized for the Grand Canyon. Next we drove. As we were driving I looked at the calendar again and messed something up, we had one more day then we though. Perfect, so 3 days for the Grand Canyon instead of 2. But we needed more food, and stopped in Kanab AZ. We had to do something with the food we picked up for the bbq, so I asked the casher if there was a park with grills anywhere in town. Sure enough there was, so we headed over and started cooking. We ended up using my camp stove to cook the vegetables and the grill for the chestnuts and meat. The nuts were done first and we tried them. 100% positive they were not chestnuts, they were so discussing it was funny. We carried these nut things like 300 miles and I couldn’t get them in the garbage fast enough. The veggies we cooked up were the best part of the meal. We used some sweet rut I haven’t used before but it was delicious, mushrooms, green pepper, and zucchini. I ate half the steak and we both finished the trout fillet. We were pressed for time and had to clean up and head out quickly. But it was really nice to have a little break from all this crazy vacationing and do something normal for once (haha I kid I kid). We had a long drive to Grand Canyon Village in the dark. I parked at the visitor center parking lot and went right to sleep.
Tuesday we were up a little after sun rise. We walked over to the canyon and it was still a little foggy so we really didn’t the best view. We drove to the back country office and explained the time constraint we had. He suggested hiking down the South Kibab trail to Bright Angle Campground and up the Bright Angle trail to Indian Garden campground, then hike out early in the morning. These are the same 2 trails I did last time but I left it up to Madlen. It’s a lot easier to get here from Wisconsin then it is from Australia. Not to mention it really was the only trail that made sense for what we had to do. So we packed up our packs and took the bus over to the trail head. Now the fog cleared and it was a beautiful sunny day. By the first stop I changed into shorts and a tee shirt. On the way down Madlen really impressed me, which people don’t often do. She had a 40 pound pack and not only didn’t complain once; she also passed up the last 2 rest stops. When we made it to the bottom, part of the campsite was closed off for repairs and there was a surprising amount of campers. There was a group of rafters that took up a large camp site. I think there were only 2 camp sites not taken when we showed up. We set up camp and cooked dinner. The sun left us about 20 minutes after we got there but didn’t go down for another hour or so. But a few minutes in the shade and it’s cold. After dinner I had a plan, last time I was down here my tent broke in a wind storm. So I rented a bed in the dorm at phantom lodge. They had hot showers in each dorm. So this time we both walked into separate dorms and straight to the shower rooms. After that small miracle we made some tea back at camp and hung around for bit watching the stars. The fact that there is a ranch with a lodge in the bottom of the Grand Canyon is still shocking to me. So I feel the need to honor that by buying a beer from that lodge every chance I get. I had a beer and Madlen had a hot coco. But we were both exhausted and soon went back to camp and got ready for the cold night.
Wednesday morning we hung around camp for awhile. Made some breakfast and played some board games. We eventually packed up camp and started the hike out. The Bright Angle Trail takes you right along the Colorado River for about a mile and a half, and then you start heading up. Here you snake next to and crisscross over a stream most of the way up. After a few hours we made it up to the Indian garden campground. We set up camp and started dinner. There was a little problem with the fuel but everything still worked out. As we were eating the park ranger came around to check our pass. We told her about Madlen’s flight to catch at 9 pm tomorrow night. The ranger said “out of Pheniox, you should be fine, just get an early start.” We shook our heads and told her LAX. Her only words were “ Well you’re not going to make it.” So we talked some more and our options were to try to wake up around 4 am and pack everything up. Or, finish eating and repack, hiking out tonight. We talked about it and realized the only real option was to hike out now. This was not the best of news, but either way we were hiking out in the dark. This way we could be sure Madlen would make her flight. I could only imagine over sleeping in the morning, or sleeping like crap always checking the time. So that’s what we did. We just finished packing and filling water as the sun left us. So it was flash lights and stars the whole way out. At one point we stopped and I was thinking, we are the only people hiking in the Grand Canyon right now. We left camp at 6:30 and made it to a lodge at the top at 10:20. We sat down for awhile by the fire and just relaxed for a bit. One cool thing was that Madlen doesn’t know anyone else that hiked the Grand Canyon. We had to hike back to the car and piled in at 11. We didn’t even unpack anything, just threw it in and started driving. One of our many conversations on the way out was about peanut butter. She thought I was crazy to have eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Or peanut butter on bread with bananas and sugar, or really peanut butter and anything. So I asked her about peanut butter and chocolate. To my shock she has never even heard of Reese’s peanut butter cups. I found the first gas station open and made her try one. She still didn’t see to comfortable with the whole peanut butter+ anything idea, but she said they pretty good. From there I drove just about to the cali border and decided we were getting a hotel. After a day like that I don’t know what I needed more a shower, or a bed.
Thursday feb 7 we had to get up somewhat early, 8:30 for the breakfast of course. But then it was already nap time. We didn’t have a ton of extra time so we started the drive to LA. I spent a part of the drive yelling at my phone trying to pay bills. It was extremely windy until we passed through the mountains, which I now hear some crazy cop killer is hiding out. Then the weather was great again, about 55 and sunny. We found a parking lot and dismantled the vehicle. Or at least took most things out and re arranged everything. Madlen was able to repack and find everything. We didn’t have a lot of time but she really wanted a local bottle of wine for her dad and to go out for dinner. So we did, the wine we picked up at a grocery store. Which took a surprisingly long time to find. Then we drove closer to the air port and went to a place called Hanks Bistro. The food was delicious and the company was even better. From there we had to go straight to the air port. We said our good byes and I must say I was sad to see her go. From there I drove to long beach and called it a night.

these are not all the pics and i will add the Bryce canyon and grand canyon pics to the next entry.  hopefully i will actually be caught up by then. enjoy!
