huntington beach, san diego

The day after the golden globes party I drove down to Huntington Beach, CA. I walked around for a bit Monday before the sun when down. Huntington Beach is a cool town; everyone rides crazy looking peddle bikes, and most people have tattoos all over.  That night I went out for pizza, which was really good and it lasted a few meals. Tuesday I laid on the beach all day, it’s still funny to me to be 80 degrees and sunny in January. When the sun went down they have a farmers market on the main street in town. This wasn’t a regular farmers market; they had 2 live bands, inflatable slides for kids, and sold just about everything. Even the stores on the strip bring merchandise out on the side walk. So that was fun to go to, but Wednesday was over case weather so no beach time.
Instead I drove down to San Diego. I pulled into sea world just to have a place to stop and look some things up about the town. Then I saw that sea world is free with a military ID. I still have mine so I walked right in. it was cool to see everything but I wasn’t to impressed.  I was expecting something like the shedd aquarium, but this was geared more for the larger animals. So I saw the whales, and walruses, but I was glad I didn’t pay. Next I checked into fishing. I found a bait shop and stopped in. he made it sound like for me to buy everything I needed to fish it would be more worth it to just go on a boat for a day. I went over to the place he told me about and signed up for the next day. after that I needed to clean up. I found a great hotel with the nicest hot tub. It was 4 and a half feet deep. When I was leaving Seattle I talked to a guy on the ferry who was from san diego. He told me a few places to check out and that I should try to find his bartender friend, vinesia,  at a place called freds. So I looked up freds and there are 3 of the in town. I figured I would hit one each night and see whats what. So I went to the first one and she wasent there. there is a waitress named vinesia, but she wanest there. The next morning I went over to the harbor, me and about 15 people were headed to Mexican waters to fish. We were fishing in 300 feet of water and you just drop the line down until you hit the bottom. Right away lots of people were pulling up fish. I wasn’t so lucky. The whole day I caught 2 fish, and one was to small. I was glad that the one I got was big enough for a meal. Probably 22 inches or so. Fishing like that just isn’t as much fun as I thought it was going to be. You feel a bit pull and real in, there’s not much fight except the drag of the fishes body. I still had a great time and im glad I went. After that, back in the hot tub. This time I meet an old guy named alen. He was 76, and moved here from England when he was 21. He was homeless and living out of garbage cans when he got here. At 24 he started an electrical contractor company. He bought his first house at 25, his first Rolls Royce at 26.  Got his 30th birthday he bought himself convertible Cadillac. He has also filed bankrupted 3 times and was homeless at 50. He fully believed hard work can get you anything. He found a way out of that and has it all back. He dose consulting work for government contractors now, which means he takes CEOs to strip clubs. He said he would retire but why? He loved the trip I was on and kept telling me to just take everything as it comes and see it in a positive light, no matter what it. When I was done soaking, I headed to freds 2. This one was downtown, still no bartender. There was a guy from new Zealand who was a blast to hang out with. Hes been here for 2 years on work. So he stays in hotels the whole time. He worked all up and down the coast but now is staying in san diego. So he had a lot of company money to spend. He bought the bar a round of shots, and some food for me. He had some good stories and it was interesting to hear how things work in his country. Beer is called piss, you never call a bartender and ask for a drink. If your glass is empty the bartender will get you another one, If not hes cutting you off. So that was a fun night. Today I went to the san diego zoo. It’s a huge zoo with so many things to see. I went over board and took way to many pictures. They basically have the same things as any zoo it’s just all put together very nicely. After the zoo I fried up the fish I caught right in the parking lot. Then I wanted to try a different hotel for the hot tub. The guy form the bar said I should check out the Hilton down town. There was some doctor convention going on so people were in the hot tub. 5 guys, 3 from Minnesota and 2 from Milwaukee. Of course they were drinking. They got a kick out of road trip story and the golden globes. 2 more people came in the hot tub and they all told the new people I was the actor from transformers, so I had to play along. On to the 3rd freds, still no bartender, I don’t whats up with that. Maybe he ment waitress? Maybe ill go back to the first one and see if its her. I just think its fun to try to actually do the things that random people tell me about. If nothing else it makes for a good story.  After that I went downtown to the bars but after paying $8 for a drink I didn’t think was really worth it. Adam comes in town tomorrow and I know he was a few really fun things planed. Its really funny that it worked out that hes out here for work any way the same time im here. And its just not that much fun in the cities by yourself. All the nature stuff like seeing the parks and everything like that is fine by yourself. So it will be great to hit to the town with him.

i will post pics later.
